During Christmas, the community becomes more relaxed, which affects them all. The long breaks from school and work change people’s schedules and make them feel more at ease and know they will be getting more rest. One thing is that they sleep more often, and during the break, they start to become extremely tired and more broken down, so they begin to dwindle into a holiday depression. People’s health gets so bad that some report them becoming an entirely different person after Christmas time.
Seasonal affective disorder is what some call the sickness because it affects people’s views on other seasons after winter. The summertime makes them feel sick, and they miss the Christmas season more. Here are some of the symptoms of this disorder: a persistent low mood, a loss of pleasure or interest in everyday activities, irritability, feelings of despair, guilt, and worthlessness, feeling lethargic (lacking in energy) and sleepy during the day, sleeping for longer than expected and finding it hard to get up in the morning, craving carbohydrates and gaining weight, and difficulty concentrating. One thing to say about this is to please if you need any help, find loved ones who can or find a warmer climate to stay in so you won’t get this devastating disorder.

Shelton Ward is a 17-year-old senior at Alliance High School. He was born on September 2, 2005 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He lived in Valentine, NE for 12 years before moving to Alliance five years ago. Shelton has worked at Runza for the last year with some of his friends, but plans on becoming a medic in the U.S Marine Corps because he wants to be able to save lives. Another reason is his older brother Shawn who was in the military; he was a machine-gunner on a Humvee in Iraq. Shawn is also his inspiration.
His favorite subject is history because of the breakthroughs made in science and the bravery of men which proves his love for helping others. More proof of his love for helping others is his favorite movie, Hacksaw Ridge. He likes it specifically because of the use of medical skills. Shelton is also a teacher-aid for Mrs. Harris because she teaches technological classes. Shelton loves technology and this is shown especially by his involvement in the Esports team here at AHS. Some random facts about Shelton are that his favorite food is Mexican because of the variety you get in it. His favorite music genre is country because of the abundant amount of it here.
