Now that Thanksgiving is over and December has started, it means Christmas is officially in season! Christmas songs are played in the stores, Christmas lights are put up all around the city, and most people start thinking about gift ideas. You should probably do that too; if you don’t want to do stressful last minute shopping on the day before Christmas. Finding the perfect gift can sometimes be difficult, but the following gift ideas are the most popular gifts in the United States. I’m sure everybody can find some inspiration here.

Gift cards and money are given the most frequently in the United States. Of course, these are always a good idea because you can use the money for something, but it’s also pretty impersonal. So if you want to give a more meaningful gift, you might want to think about something more special.

A good example might be a photo album. Of course this is kind of “old school” because everybody has photos on his/her phone, but it’s always more meaningful when the pictures are printed out. Especially older people like your parents and grandparents, that love photo albums with their favorite memories in them. But photos are also a great idea for your friends. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a photo album, it can be a photo garland as room decoration for example. Or you could have your favorite pictures printed on a mug or a phone case!

The gift that is bought the second most often after gift cards and money is clothing. I think that clothes are always a good gift idea. You could either buy some cute clothes for your friends and family, or some fuzzy socks for the cold winter months. If your friend is funny, you could also buy some silly clothes that he/she can laugh about. There are a lot of funny Christmas socks and sweaters out there.

Electronics are also a very popular gift, but might be too expensive. For children the number one gift is toys. There are a lot of inexpensive toys which will make children just as happy as expensive toys would, so if you are looking for a present for your siblings, nephews, nieces, or other children, I’m sure they will be happy about receiving some toys.

Another gift idea that people would love to receive is food. So go to the grocery store, buy a selection of their favorite food, and wrap it nicely as a gift!

If you are looking for a present for a girl, cosmetics or jewelry might be a good idea. You could invest in Kylie Jenner Lipsticks for example. They are affordable since they only cost about $15, but most girls don’t own any. Jewelry also doesn’t have to be expensive. Walmart and Target both offer cute jewelry that is pretty cheap.

If none of these gift ideas appeal to you, or you just don’t want to spend too much money, keep in mind that time is often a better present than anything else. Your little siblings, parents, or other people that mean a lot to you would probably love to go on a little trip with you more than anything and depending on where you go, it could be completely free.
