Veteran’s Day

Tuesday, November 11, 2014 is Veteran’s day. Veteran’s day is a holiday held on the anniversary of the end of World War I to honor the US Veterans and victims of all wars.

Dr. Unzicker asked the schools to make sure that they are involving Veteran’s day into the classrooms. Alliance hosted a Veteran’s day assembly and invited veterans to speak and get recognized for their contributions to the country.

Starting at 2 pm. Student Council served cookies and coffee to the veterans. At 2:27, all students headed to the PAC to attend an assembly. The colors were presented, Sheyenne Weaver then sang the National Anthem. Mr. Clear honored the veterans by era, or the war(s) that they served in. The first speaker was video of an interview with Ray Crawford. Crawford was introduced and interviewed by Mr. Baker. His interview consisted of his life and what his experience in World War I was like.

After the video, Tia Love spoke about the history of Veteran’s day. The AHS band then played the “Armed Forces Salute”. After the band played, the second speaker was BJ Taylor. Taylor talked about how veterans have a certain date that is the anniversary of the day that they had a trauma to them. This day is known as Alive Day. This trauma could consist of losing a friend or being mentally or physically injured.

The band then played their second song, “In Honor Of The Fallen”. There was also a video tribute called “I’m Going Home”. The video tribute was the last part of the assembly and then the students were dismissed at the end of the assembly.

A huge thanks goes out to Mr. Clear, Mr. Baker, and Mr. Heide for putting together the 2014 Veteran’s day assembly. Another huge thanks to Mrs. McBride for running lights, sound, and the videos. A bigger thank you goes out to the veterans that serve our country.
