AHS Speech Team Places at Mitchell
On Saturday, March 8, the Alliance High School Speech Team competed at the Western Conference Speech Tournament in Mitchell. The team placed third overall in the tournament.
Roger Bunnell and Collin Cox took first in Duet Acting. Andreas Volland achieved second in Entertainment Speaking, and Alliance’s group obtained third in Oral Interpretation of Drama, four members Trajan Garcia, Christa Horn, Ian Nelson, and Bailey O’Connor competed together. Cox placed again taking fourth place in Humorous Prose. While Bunnell also placed fourth in Serious Prose.
Cox was shocked, but thrilled when he received first place with his partner Bunnell. “There were a lot of Scottsbluff and Gering students, so I was shocked when we won. The judges at invitational tend to be more biased towards Scottsbluff and Gering.” At districts there is going to be some tough competition, but he just hopes he’ll make it to state. “We have a good chance of qualifying, it’ll just depend on the competition and how well polished I am compared to the competition.” Cox will compete in the Humorous and the Duet with Bunnell at districts. When asked how Cox will think his senior year will go this upcoming year, Mrs. Green, the speech team coach, interjected, “Amazing!” with great enthusiasm.
The Alliance Speech team will go to Gering on Thursday, March 20 to compete in Class B-6 District Tournament to qualify for state.
