It is once again time for AHS, and indeed for the entire world, to observe No-shave November. A time when respectable people from every walk of life put away their razors for an entire month and let nature take it’s course. Okay, so maybe not so many respectable people take part, mostly it is carefree high school students taking part, but at least its origin is respectable.
No-shave November is a tradition that dates back to the philosopher Plato. In his Book III he argued that it was beard growth that changed boys to men. He believed that for a young man growing a beard was as important a step as being taught the ethics necessary to becoming a man. Plato’s tradition lasted 2,300 years and it still around, though it has now changed drastically.
The tradition has lost it’s original significance as being a rite of passage and now simply consists of men not shaving their beards and women not shaving their legs for the whole month of November just for fun, kind of gross, we know.
However, since many AHS students, both boys and girls, will take part in this annual event, The Spud will do it’s part to support meaningless tradition by following their progress and posting pictures of a few no-shave participants throughout the month. Good luck “No-shavers,” The Spud wishes you great growth during the upcoming month.
