Oscar nominated movie “American Sniper” has gained some recent controversy. It is a war/anti-war movie directed by Clint Eastwood about the Navy SEAL, which stands for Sea, Air, and Land. Chris Kyle, who has the most recorded enemy kills in U.S history.

The movie is considered great among many but movie director Michael Moore commented on “American Sniper,” saying that his “uncle was killed by a sniper” and that he was “taught that all snipers are cowards.”

Chris Kyle was either deployed in war zones or was trained for war for 300 days a year during his service in SEAL teams. The divorce rate for SEALS is typically high since they are always gone, and mothers usually have to raise their children alone. SEALS barely know their children, and they never know when they’ll leave or for how long. They must always risk their lives, and war is always unpredictable. Anything can happen in a life or death situation. Snipers also have some of the most dangerous jobs in the Special Operations system, so to call a sniper a coward is ignorant.

In “American Sniper,” Kyle finds that he can’t leave the war behind, and he serves in Iraq for four tours of duty. It gained many great reviews, and though Michael Moore is expressing his freedom of speech, he should’ve thought before posting his statement. But hopefully people will forget about his words and see the bigger picture.
