Philip Seymour Hoffman was an amazing actor who had a wide range of roles. He could play parts from heartfelt to creepy and anything between. The latest Hunger Games movie made Hoffman’s face recognized by most of the younger generations. He played the head game maker in the Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He also played a role in “The Master” (2012), “Moneyball” (2011), and “Pirate Radio” (2009). Lionsgate, the studio that produced the Hunger Games, described Hoffman as, “a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation.”

According to law enforcement officials, Hoffman was expected to pick up his children from his ex-wife on Sunday, but didn’t show up. The suspicion led to Playwright David Katz going to the apartment. Hoffman was found on the bathroom floor of his Manhattan apartment with a needle in his left arm. Hoffman was surrounded by many empty envelops by the brand “Ace of Hearts”, which is a street name for heroin. There were also almost 50 full envelopes found with a white powder that is expected to be heroin enclosed. Also, many used syringes and prescription drugs were found scattered throughout the apartment. All of the evidence leads to an apparent drug overdose, and an autopsy by the New York medical examiner confirmed these suspicions. Police investigators will start a search to find where the heroin could have been purchased. This will include tracking recent phone calls and recent activities. Through further investigation, officials found that Hoffman withdrew a total of $1,200 from an ATM around 9:00 on Saturday night. This was believed to have been used to purchase the drugs.

This was not Hoffman’s first round with addiction. Last year he entered a drug rehab facility to help him through a relapse after 23 years clean.  After he returned from rehab, Hoffman bought his Manhattan apartment that he was found in Sunday. Most of Hoffman’s family also lived in the neighborhood. Hoffman visited most of his usual stops the day before the overdose. The death of 46-year-old Hoffman was not anticipated. Many mourn and show their support by the showering of cards and flowers, which began instantly after word spread of the tragedy. The investigation of the beloved actor still continues.
