Alliance Public Schools’ own Technology Coordinator, Earl Jones, is now a candidate for the Nebraska Legislature. Jones is hoping to represent the 43rd Legislative District. In a press release Jones said, “I have always been involved in community service, and serving in the Nebraska Unicameral seems like a logical step to continue that service. I cannot promise that you will always agree with what I do, but I can promise that I will always work hard to represent the 43rd Legislative District.”
This year Earl Jones submitted his retirement to the Alliance Public Schools Administration. He has lived in Alliance since 1977 and has also spent 29 of those years employed by APS. Through his years in Alliance Jones has been President of the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, a position he still currently holds, Chairman of the Board of Adjustments, Chairman of the Alliance Planning Commission and President of the Alliance Lion’s Club. He is also currently President of the Church Council for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alliance and serving on the Alliance Dog Park board.
Earl has also been recognized with various awards including Person of the Year, awarded by the Alliance Times Herald in 2006 for his work with High Plains Chautauqua and his contributions to the Alliance Schools and community. He has also garnered awards of contribution and service from the AHS FFA and A-Club, the Miss America Pageant, and the Alliance Park and Tree Board.
Jones’s family consists of his wife Patricia, who teaches Economics and Business Law at AHS and is also an adjunct instructor for Western Nebraska Community College, his son Alex Jones, who works in Chadron and studies Music Business at attends Chadron State College, and a daughter, Johanna Jones Hyatt, who is a librarian at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. Patricia Jones serves on the Federal Reserve Advisory Committee for Education, coaches the high school Academic Decatholon team, and has previously worked with the AHS Mock Trial and DECA teams. Patricia has also previously been involved with Chautauqua, Box Butte County Tourism, and served on the board of Dobb’s Frontier Town.
Earl Jones has been an Alliance Public Schools’ technology guru and he will be greatly missed. APS wishes him the best of luck in the up-coming election.
