The genre of metal music is very controversial and the bands who perform it are typically controversial as well. The term “Screamo” is definitely fitting for the songs created by Bullet For My Valentine, whose most famous works include this type of gutturally shouted lyrics that earn them such a title as a screaming band. However, unlike some metal bands that use this form of vocals, Bullet For My Valentine also performs slower and less aggressive songs.
Bullet for my Valentine created a reputation for itself in its debut album The Poison, released in October of 2005 in the UK and on Valentine’s Day the next year in the United States, but this was not their first run together as a band.
The band was formed in the United Kingdom in 1998. Not known, at first, as Bullet For My Valentine, they began their career under the name of Jeff Killed John and covered many Metallica and Nirvana songs. Jeff Killed John recorded six songs, none of which were released. Later into their career, when they were known as Bullet For My Valentine, they remade two of those songs and released them. The reason for their name changing was financial and resulted in a change in music direction as well. According to the band members, they still find influence and inspiration from the classic metal bands, such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slayer, even though they have changed their direction.
Temper Temper, which was released in the United States on February 12, fulfills what Bullet For My Valentine fans expected and more. The first song on the album, “Breaking Point,” has every component that makes a metal song good, according to the lead vocalist, Matthew Tuck. This new album is a great addition to the world metal music and a great fourth album to Bullet For My Valentine’s music library.
