Happy New Year, SPUD readers! From 1985 to this past year, some of our all time favorite characters and games alike are making a big come back this month. This month’s releases are sure to please all gamers, whether you’re a Mario or superhero fan.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker – January 2^nd

The world’s favorite little mushroom character is back! Equipped with a red neck scarf, a backpack and a giant headlamp, Toad takes you on an adventure to find hidden gems, coins, power-ups and more, on your way to the Gold Star at the end of each level. Every stage has its own special puzzle for you to solve, proving that sometimes, wit and perspective are more important than super powers. Grab your Wii U gamepad and help Toad survive to beat the game!

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected & Gat out of Hell – January 23^rd

This month you can add the newest addition to the Saints Row series to your PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game collections. This game includes features such as new super powers, such as telekinesis and weapons, like the “Dubstep gun” where you can dance your enemies to death. This open-world adventure is becoming known as the best installment in the game series, thus far. The Saints Row humor that everyone has come to love so much is surely not to disappoint.

Big Hero 6: Battle in the Bay – January 23^rd

Disney’s most popular comic book heroes of 2015 are back! Grab your Nintendo 3DS and join Hiro Hamada and his friends gone superhero in this game, set after the events of the popular film. Battlebots have invaded San Fransokyo and it’s your job to save the day! The playable characters include Hiro, the leader of the group. Wasabi, whose skill is fast-paced combat; Gogo, the speediest of them and Fred, who shows over-the-top power.

January was a slower month for gaming, only holding the release dates for two other games. Nonetheless, from Big Hero 6 to Toad the mushroom, the characters making their return this year are proof that the 2016 gaming year will be a successful one.
