February’s To Be Released – Movies
Although we are finally out of the January slump, February doesn’t have much to liven up the movie theater. Have hope, however, as there are a few gems this month that will surely land you in the theater seats in the coming weeks.
The Monument’s Men – February 7 (Trailer)
George Clooney steps back into the director’s chair to bring us “The Monument’s Men”, a true story of a World War II platoon tasked with rescuing pieces of art from the Nazis. This movie was set to be released this past December, yet was delayed as the producers say more time was needed to finish the special effects.
The cast features all-star actors headlined by George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, and John Goodman. “The Monument’s Men” is sure to feature some great performances and a story that will satisfy and most moviegoers this month.
The LEGO Movie – February 7 (Trailer)
The LEGO brand has expanded far beyond the toys everyone remembers as a child. We have seen the fun blocks make the jump to video games, TV shows, and now they transcend another medium of entertainment. With an incredible ensemble cast of actors lending their voices to the small toys, “The LEGO Movie” will please any age and provide some great fun.
RoboCop – February 12 (Trailer)
Next in the line of unnecessary remakes is “RoboCop”, a reimagining of the 1987 film which follows the story of a cop who after being injured in the line of duty, is transformed into a cyborg who is part-man, part-robot. The original, which was actually nominated for two Oscars and won one, has since gained somewhat of a cult following. The 2014 version does feature some great actors, including Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson. RoboCop, however, will have to bring more than just star power to the table to truly prove its existence and convert the skeptics who love the original.
Winter’s Tale – February 14 (Trailer)
From director Akiva Goldsman, “Winter’s Tale” tells the story of a burglar who falls in love with a heiress, and after she dies in his arms, he later learns he has the power of reincarnation. He then sets out on a journey to save his lost love.
While “Winter’s Tale” is not headlined by a famous director or set of writers, it does feature an overall great cast the includes Jennifer Connelley, Collin Farrell, Will Smith, and one of my personal favorites, Russell Crowe. With an interesting plot and a great set of actors, Winter’s Tale could sure prove to be surprise in a still early year that has been littered with films that have been mostly duds.
