Kill Your Darlings – October 18 (Trailer)

“Kill Your Darlings” tells the tale of how a 1944 murder brings together the lives of poets Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and William Burroughs. The film brings together great young talent such as Daniel Radcliffe, who you may know from the “Harry Potter” franchise, and Dane DeHaan, who has appeared in movies such as “Chronicle” and also will star in next year’s Spiderman sequel. The film also is the first feature length movie for young director John Krokidas and the first scripe from writer Austin Bunn.

Carrie – October 18 (Trailer)

“Carrie” is a remake of the classic horror film originally from 1976, based on the novel by Stephen King. Director Kimberly Price helms the project, who you may recognize from films such as “Boys Don’t Cry”. Writer Lawrence D. Cohen is familiar with horror flicks, as his resume includes a slew of other Stephen King inspired projects such as “It” and the original “Carrie”. It promises to be strong at the box office, with stars such as Julianne Moore and Chloe Grace Morerez headlining the cast.

The Fifth Estate – October 18 (Trailer)

The world had known nothing much like the advent of WikiLeaks, as the website tried to reveal some of the world’s best kept secrets. Now the dramatic account of how it happened comes to the big screen, as the “The Fifth Estate” tells the story of how Julian Assange, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, rose as a hero to many, and an enemy to others. The film promises to be interesting, with an especially interesting director heading the project. Bill Condon is directing the thriller, and if you are under the age of 15, you know this man. He is responsible for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and 2.” While the film has already been criticized for its inaccuracies (including from Julian Assange himself) the book-adaption looks to be some good fun in the theater.

12 Years a Slave – October 18 (Trailer)

One of the films garnering some looks from Mr. Oscar is “12 Years a Slave”. From director Steve McQueen and based on the book of the same by Solomon Northup, the film tells the story of a free black man from the North who is then abducted and sold in slavery in the South. The movie has been receiving incredible reviews and includes an absolutely amazing cast. “12 Years a Slave” stars Quvenzhane Wallis, Taran Killam, Paul Giamatti, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Fassbender, Paul Dano, and Brad Pitt. I all I can simply say is don’t let this movie pass you by. Come award season, look for this film to make some waves among the Academy.

The Counselor – October 25 (Trailer)

One of my most anticipated movies of 2013 is “The Counselor”. This movie has legend written all over it. First, legendary director Ridley Scott returns with his latest work. Ridley Scott, if you may not know, is responsible for some of Hollywood’s most timeless films. Among his works are “Blade Runner”, “Alien”, “Prometheus”, and “Black Hawk Down”. Then there is the cast that is quite literally the definition of an all-star ensemble. You have Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Dormer, Penelope Cruz, and one of my favorite men in the world, Javier Bardem. With an amazing cast and crew, the story of a lawyer caught in the world of drug trafficking comes to life. This also promises to be catching some attention come award season from the Academy.
