The Peterson Farm Bros are on the verge of going viral again. The three brothers from Assaria, Kansas, put their remake of PSY’s hit song “Gangnam Style” up on YouTube late at night on Tuesday, December 4, and it received over one million views within the next 24 hours.
Greg, Nathan, and Kendal Peterson gained fame this summer when the release of their parody “I’m Farming and I Grow It” went viral. The song came to being when Greg Peterson, a senior music and agricultural communications major at Kansas State University, was out with his friend’s last school year, when LMAFO’s song “I’m Sexy and I Know It” came on the radio. Greg disliked the song and started switching words of the chorus and then he became inspired to write an entire parody of this song. Greg went home for summer break and talked his brothers: Nathan, 18, and Kendal, 15, into recording the parody. The video was filmed by their sister, Laura, and it depicted them doing everyday farm tasks and singing their song. The remake was filmed over a period of weeks, as the boys were busy with wheat harvest and could only film at night and on Sundays.
The video was an instant hit and had millions of views within days. The boys became an Internet sensation on Facebook and Twitter and were invited to New York for an interview on Fox News. Local and national newspapers, radios, and television stations interviewed Greg, Nathan, and Kendal for weeks after the release of their video. The boys designed t-shirts to commemorate the parody and Greg is selling them out of his dorm room.
The boys debuted their second parody, a remake of PSY’s “Gangnam Style” on December 4. “Farmer Style” spread like a wildfire on Facebook and Twitter, and was shared over 12,000 times by the next day. The video reminds people to thank a farmer for producing their food and reminds them of how important agriculture is in their everyday lives, regardless of where they live. Thus, the Peterson Farm Bros have become excellent advocates for agriculture and Internet stars all at once.
