The Alliance Speech Team had two meets over the past month. This last meet, we had many students place for extemp, humorous, persuasive, and a group activity called IOD. The speech team has been getting it into gear with practicing and one-and-one practices with coaches. They have many more meets to come, but this meet includes Western Conference which was February 3. We can choose two or three students to take to the Western Conference, while the rest go to normal speech meet. It will be held at Chadron High School.
In an interview with Ira Bradaric, she states,”I really enjoy speech. It is different than “simple” acting and creates its own difficulties, so I love the challenge”. Ira is an exchange student from Germany, and she says that she wishes she could do speech next year, but unfortunately can’t. She would love to expand the experience when she goes back to Germany. Ira and Ayvrie both went to finals and placed. Ayvrie, Ira’s partner in duet, states,”I was very proud of my performance at Chadron! We had almost everyone final at that meet! Our team has progressed and evolved in so many ways even though this season has been so short. I greatly enjoy speech. I think that everyone should be involved because it teaches you skills that you will need throughout your life, such as time management, memorization, public speaking, and camaraderie. It is also a great way to get to know people from different schools and make new friends.”
The speech team still has a while before districts, and we hope to see improvement among our fellow speech students. They really have been working their butts off to place in their sections. We really want to see the speech team go to state and place in what they entered for. This year is going to be a great year for speech with the large group of people that joined, especially our new speechies(that is what we refer to speech kids as) and freshmen!
