Saint Patrick’s Day
I’ve already celebrated some amazing holidays here in the United States that we don’t celebrate back home and as March comes around the corner, that means a very special day for the Irish Americans is coming up. On March 17th, Saint Patrick’s Day will be celebrated.
It’s a religious holiday, which represents the day that the first Christian churches were made in Ireland.
My host family and friends told me that you have to wear something green on Saint Patrick Day because if you don’t you get “pinched”. I’m not sure if they were joking or not, but just in case, it’s always good to wear something green, because of tradition. My host mom also told me that everyone usually eats corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. I was really looking forward to it because it sounded delicious. Some people told me that adults tend to drink alcohol for the special occasion as well.
A four-leaf clover is very popular too, it symbolizes luck. I already knew what it meant, but I never knew it came from Saint Patrick’s Day.
My S. Patrick’s holiday was pretty normal. I did my usual schedule, school and then tennis practice, but when I got home, my host mom prepared a wonderful meal, and we ate it all even though I didn’t really like the taste of the corned beef, so I ate a lot of potatoes and vegetables. At the end the day my host family and I sat down and listened to some Irish music. It was an enjoyable calm day because I got to experience something I had never done before and I was glad I got to spend this event with them.
