The Loss Of Two Legends
Tragedy struck the nation and the fans as a whole at the end of 2016. Two legendary stars, who also happened to be mother and daughter, passed away. Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, at age 60. The cause of Fisher’s death still remains unclear as officials are not clear on whether her cardiac arrest was the actual cause. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, passed away the following day on December 28, 2016, due to a severe stroke at the age of 84.
Carrie Fisher was well known and loved for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga. Mark Hamill, who also starred in the Star Wars saga, as Luke Skywalker stated, “I have met only one Carrie Fisher. I don’t expect to meet another.” There were many tributes from her fans, friends, and family members after she died.
Debbie Reynolds was a well known actress and singer who held the lead role in “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Halloween Town”. She also had a starring role in “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” which led her to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. This would become the first nomination of many more to follow. I believe that the mother-daughter duo will be remembered and go down in history for their achievements.
A memorial will be held for Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Beverly Hills compound before the burial takes place on the following day, where the pair will be laid to rest in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
Todd Fisher, a family member to both of the deceased, stated “We’re broken-hearted, those of us that are left behind. We are also happy that they’re together. It’s horrible, it’s beautiful, it’s magical, they are together, it’s beyond words, it’s beyond understanding.”
It is already noticeable that the pair will be missed greatly by fans, family members, and friends alike. May Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher rest in peace.
