Changes In Alliance
The City Council is currently at work at adding to the number of businesses already in Alliance. These new businesses that are being proposed to come to Alliance, would bring economical growth to the town that it needs. These are just retail businesses that may come to Alliance, other changes to the town include things such as improving the image of the town, and new housing.
Due to the lack of shopping in Alliance, major items are bought out of town and do not contribute to the economical growth. The city plans to approach major chains of companies and ask them if they would like to open locations in Alliance. JD Cox, the city manager, would like to keep the names of the retail companies confidential because this process is already under way. If any of these companies decide to come to Alliance, they would be a big benefit to the economical growth to the city.
Another project that the city of Alliance is working on is opening more hotels for the visitors that come to Alliance. The city has a shortage of hotel rooms and the building of more hotels would be beneficial during the summer when people come to visit.
The city also has a lack of housing. If a house or apartment is put up on the market, it will not be up on the market for long. With the growth of population moving to Alliance, the additional availability of housing would be helpful. The city doesn’t want a family to move here and not be able to find housing and have to move away because of it. The city is working on getting a task force together to build more housing for the people of Alliance.
One new development in the city is the Maverick gas station that is located on the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 385 and Nebraska Highway 2. The Maverick opened on October 15, 2014. The two things that the Maverick brings to Alliance include adding to the intersection and convince visitors want to visit all Alliance has to offer, and it opens up more job opportunities. “We live in a town that never sleeps, and people have jobs when others are sleeping,” said Cox.
The city of Alliance has a climate for business expansion that is good. The changes in Alliance are helping the city to grow and become successful. Time can only tell what changes Alliance will have in the future.
