The 56th annual Grammy Awards

Music is a part of everyone’s life in today’s world. It’s everywhere you go – from your radio, to your smartphone, or even your laptop computer. No matter where you choose to enjoy music, it’s all the same. Last year, the music industry exploded into irresistible tunes including Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” Miley Cyrus’s “We Can’t Stop,” & Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” The wonderful art of music is celebrated by the Grammy Awards. This year marks the 56th annual awards show.

Sure, last year offered millions of music fans unforgettable tunes that they will never seem to shake out of their heads. However, the record of the year was given to Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” The single was released on April 19th, 2013 and since then, it’s been a hit. “What makes the song so remarkable is the fact that Pharrell Williams, (a very talented artist) is featured in the song,” said a reporter of the Grammy’s 2014 during the red-carpet session. “Get Lucky” made famous by Daft Punk has a interesting sound to it; the song was influenced by 70’s disco and it is a throwback to appreciate the classical music that our parents enjoyed listening to, back in their young days.

The award for “Best New Artist” for last year was given to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Macklemore burst into the music scene last year when he released “Thrift Shop.” The single was to pay tribute to thrift store shopping and how it is “okay” to shop at second-hand stores and to also have the benefit of saving a few extra dollars in your pocket. However, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dropped other wild singles including “Can’t Hold Us” and “Same Love.”

There were also extreme performances arranged by talented artists including Beyoncé & Jay Z, Pink, Kenderick Lamar, and many more. Beyoncé & Jay Z (happily married couple) shocked fans across the world by performing on-stage together where they performed “Drunk in Love.” However, the performance was heavily criticized for being too “filthy.” Pink, also performed on-stage where she flew across the stadium in a harness, doing acrobatic tricks, while singing “Give Me A Reason.” The song was indeed awarded “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” with Nat Ruess of Fun. Finally, Kendrick Lamar fearlessly stepped out into the open stage with Imagine Dragons, using all of their energy to pull off the best singles from both of their albums. In the midst of all of the performing, wild clouds of fog shot up from the ground, as well as bright-colored lights dangling around the stage.

The Grammy Awards is a special night to show appreciation to the wonderful art of music. The awards were a huge success and plenty of music fans all across the world are looking forward to another year of the Grammy’s next year.
