As school has begun, so have fall sports, including girls’ golf. The girls’ golf team has seen many changes this year, including a new coach. Mrs. Berlyn Clear has taken on the role of coach this year. She is very excited about this new role and is looking forward to this season.

The varsity team this year consists of Reagan Lambert (11), Julia Carlson (11), Julia Wilson (10), Morgan Young (10), and Sydney Allard (10). Other girls on the team include: Donna LeMunyan (10) and Kaylie Bolinger (10).

The Varsity girls teed off to start the season at the Sidney golf tournament. Morgan Young finished the day scoring a 108, Julia Wilson scored a 109, and Reagan Lambert ended with a 119. Sydney Allard golfed a 121 while Julia Carlson ended the day with a 153. The team total was 457. After the tournament Coach Clear stated on Twitter, “First tournament is in the books. I know some are disappointed and some are happy!!! We will continue to practice and get better.”

The JV girls’ first tournament was in Bayard. Julia Wilson finished in 7th place shooting a 108 and Kaylie Bolinger finished in 10th with a 113. Other team members competing include: Morgan Young who ended the day with a 117. Sydney Allard then finished with a 123 and Julia Carlson with a 124.

The team has said that they really like the new coach and her coaching style. She allows them to try new things and new techniques which is important in helping them improve their skills. They also enjoy the new aspect of having team dinners.

Julia Wilson, varsity golfer, explained that something that has been a challenge and something the team as a whole needs to work on is staying consistent. Her favorite part of the meets is when she places. Julia’s least favorite part, and something that is very frustrating, is when the tournaments get rained out.

The team has set many goals this year. Most of the individual goals include breaking 100 and going to state. When asked what the team was excited about, Julia responded, “We’re excited about getting better and improving our skills.”

While the girls’ golf team is small, they are still a very strong team. They have things to work on, as all teams do, but they have a lot of skill within the team. The girls are excited for this season.
