Operation Find A Date

Alliance High’s prom is just around the corner! Prom will be held Saturday April 23. Grand March is a time for the public to come see the couples in their dresses and tuxes. It will be in the PAC starting at eight o’clock with the dance following. This year’s prom is a masquerade theme called “A Night In Disguise”. With prom being less than two weeks away, girls are scrambling to get everything planned for prom, but most important is “operation find a date.”

Girls may dream of being asked in a big cute way called a “Promposal.” As opposed to the regular “Hey lets go to prom?” Promposals have been around for longer than we think. The definition of a promposal from Collins dictionary, is “an elaborate and public proposal to take somebody to a high school prom, modeled on traditional stylized marriage proposals.” It is a huge trend that became so well known from social media. This year Alliance High School had many girls get asked to prom in a cute, clever way, here are a few examples.

Senior Ryan Craig asked junior Jennifer Figueroa with flowers and doughnuts that spelled out prom.

Cupcakes in the shape of the house and balloons from the Pixar movie “UP” is how junior Gage Rolls asked sophomore Sydney Nordeen to prom.

Evan Steggs, sophomore, asked senior Morgan Johnston with a poster that said “Mickey needs Minnie & Tigger needs Pooh and I would like to go to prom with you!” with a cute little gift basket full of candy, stuffed animals that matched the quote, and a rose.

Trajan Garcia, junior asked Sheyenne Weaver, who is also a junior, by putting “Coming soon, Prom 2016, Trajan & Sheyenne” on the marquee at the Alliance Theatre.

My final example of a promposal from AHS is two junior girl best friends, Isabel Aguallo and Emily Steggs who decided to go with each other instead of putting up with the stress of going with a boy. So Isabel took McDonalds chicken nuggets and a poster that said “ Boys suck be my chick (en-nugget) to prom?”

Regardless of how anyone got asked to prom or not, it will still be a fun filled night! Prom is always extremely memorable and AHS The SPUD hopes you all have the best night!
