The Alliance High Schools band had their annual Christmas concert Thursday, December 17, at 7PM in the Performing Arts Center. The concert was originally planned for December 15, but got cancelled due to all the snow. They started off the night with their groovy Jazz Band. They played three songs, “Joy to the World”, “Away in a Manger”, and “Go Tell It On the Mountain”, one sounding just as good as the other. During each song there were many solos. In “Joy to the World” Rhette Lewis played the trombone, Jake McCaffery on the euphonium, Tyler Quick playing alto sax, Sydnie Waldron playing tenor sax, and Zachary Young on the trumpet. During “Away in a Manger”, Anthony Hare had a solo on the piano and Emily Green on the Flugelhorn. Finally, Aaron Goodell on the drums, Tyler Girard played the trumpet, Anthony Hare on the piano, Bailey Alwin on the alto sax, and David Beckett on the trumpet, all had solos during “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”

Next the concert band came on stage and also did a fantastic job playing the theme from “The Pacific”, themes from “The Nutcracker”, “The Seal Lullaby”, and “Christmas At the Movies”. Before each song someone from in the band would come up and read off program notes to give some extra information about the song they were about to play. There was only one instrument solo by Grace Tolstedt on the piano during “The Seal Lullaby”.

Both bands and all the solos played very well. When asking Isabella Jaramillo what her favorite song from the concert was she responded, ”I enjoyed all the songs but the Nutcracker one was my favorite. It really got me in the Christmas mood!”

Along with the concert the results for Allstate band, UNK honor band, Chadron honor band, Hastings honor band, Doane honor band, and Wayne honor band are in! Emmy Green made Allstate band on trumpet. For UNK Peyton Stoike, Emmy Green, and Sariah Grant all made honor band it. Peyton Stoike, Sariah Grant, Emmy Green, and David Beckett made Chadron’s honor band. For Hastings Sariah Grant and Emmy Green. For Doane Peyton Stoike, Sariah Grant, Emmy Green, David Beckett, and Jake McCaffery all made it. Finally, Peyton Stoike, Sariah Grant, David Beckett, and Emmy Green all made Wayne’s honor band.
