Ms. Dimmit’s moneywise, marketing, and accounting classes participated in the Nebraska Finance Challenge this month. The students took a thirty question, thirty minute test that covered things in the business field such as mortgages, loans, savings, checking, and insurance. The top team in Nebraska recieved twenty-five dollars this fall, and next spring the top team will get two thousand dollars for each member on the team. Two hundred seventy-nine schools participated in the challenge.

Nebraska wants to get every student to get certified as Nebraska Financial Scholars. Last spring was the first time this test became free and the students of AHS took it. According to Dimmit, “this was just a warm-up” and the students will do better next semester.

Dimmit’s fifth period marketing class placed seventh. Dimmit is still unsure of the scores they got to obtain this place. The students are mostly seniors that have taken business classes before so they know more about money acquired by taking her other classes offered. The test was taken as a group so there was no individual scores. Dimmit plans to take the test again this coming spring, hoping to get better placing and scores. The test is free to everyone, and students are encouraged to take it regardless of if they are in Dimmit’s class. If students wish to take the test they need to talk to Dimmit and she will get them registered.
