As a student of Alliance High School and having to sit in a classroom that is awfully hot I think that we should start school after Labor Day weekend. It’s hard to focus on what your doing when it’s nearly one hundred degrees outside and inside especially with no air conditioners in the class rooms. If we started school after Labor Day weekend we wouldn’t have to have two weeks of heat schedule we could just got right to full days.
Heat schedule is nice because, hey, who doesn’t like to get out at one o’clock? Then again from a teachers point of view, it’s hard to plan accordingly to the heat schedule and to talk about everything that needs to be taught to the students. Students don’t pay as much attention during heat schedule because they are excited to be out of school at one pm and they are worried about other things like how the heat is making them uncomfortable and what else they could be doing if they weren’t in school.
Labor Day weekend is the ending of summer. A lot of the places that families go to travel don’t close until after Labor Day weekend so if we waited two more weeks to start school families could finish their summer and they could travel more before the school year comes around and before it starts to get cold. We wouldn’t have to worry about getting behind because we could just jump on into the full days and get the school year going!
