Upcoming Movies: February 2016

February is here; it’s the month of love, right? Maybe not this month with a wide variety of movies coming to theatres, from a movie based off a Nicholas Sparks book to a movie based off true events in the 1940s. There’s something for everyone this February.

The Choice- February 5

The Choice” tells the story of a long love affair that begins when Travis Parker and Gabby Holland first met as neighbors in a small coastal town and end up pursuing a relationship that neither could have foreseen. It spans a decade and traces the evolution of a love affair that is ultimately tested by life’s most defining events. Based off of the book written by Nicholas Sparks, “the Choice” is a moving novel and many have high hopes for the books.

Deadpool- February 12

Deadpool” starring Ryan Reynolds, tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Race- February 19

Race” is based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens. The superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. “Race” is an enthralling film about courage, determination, tolerance, and friendship, and an inspiring drama about one man’s fight to become an Olympic legend. With the stars Stephan James and Jason Sudeikis, this film is sure to make a great appearance in theatres.

Triple 9 – February 26

In “Triple 9”, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge. Kate Winslet, Norman Reedus, Casey Affleck, and Woody Harrelson star in this thriller.

Eddie the Eagle- February 26

Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards, played by Taron Egerton, an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself – even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach, played by Hugh Jackman, Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.
