The New Year is here and for many of us, that means new resolutions. Working out, eating right, or going to church are all very popular, but everyone should strive to make the most out of the year. This means visiting the local theatre and seeing those movies you’ve been dying to see since the previews came out.

The Forest – January 8

Set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest, a real-life place in Japan where people go to end their lives, “The Forest” tells the story of a young American woman in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings not to “stray from the path,” Sara dares to enter the forest to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead who now prey on anyone who crosses their paths.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldier of Benghazi – January 15

An attack takes place on the U.S. Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA Annex in Benghazi on the eleventh anniversary of 9/11. Six members of the Annex Security Team defend the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, from an attack by Islamic militants. Directed by Michael Bay, this highly anticipated movie describes the troubles of choosing to do what is right.

Ride Along 2 – January 15

Rookie lawman Ben Barber, played by Kevin Hart, aspires to become a detective like James Payton, played by Ice Cube, his future brother-in-law. James reluctantly takes Ben to Miami to follow up on a lead that’s connected to a drug ring. The case brings them to a homicide detective and a computer hacker who reveals evidence that implicates a respected businessman. It’s now up to James and Ben to prove that charismatic executive Antonio Pope is actually a violent crime lord who rules southern Florida’s drug trade.

The Boy – January

An American nanny is shocked that her new English family’s boy is actually a life-sized doll. Despite the warnings from the parents that something terrible will happen if the rules are neglected, the nanny ignores the list. Every time she does ignore them something strange happens. Only when the grocery boy shares the horrific details of the family’s past, she realizes that she wasn’t hired. She was chosen.

The Finest Hours – January 29

The Coast Guard makes a daring rescue attempt off the coast of Cape Cod after a pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard in 1952. After the oil tankers are literally ripped in half, the senior officer realizes it is up to him to take charge, set aside the crew’s differences to work together to make it out alive.

Also this month

Dirty Grandpa starring Zac Efron and Robert De Niro is about a road trip to Daytona for spring break. Efron’s future grandfather-in-law takes the uptight lawyer on a wild journey, and forms a bond they never expected.
