With the new year comes new technology, and Sony jumps the gun by developing a new HDTV.  Other competitors have focused on making the TVs slimmer with a HD quality picture. Sony decided otherwise, making the TV a wedge design instead of a slim, flat box. With the deep triangular sides that taper in thickness as they rise. It gives Sony more space for better speakers, which will deliver better bass, wider sonic range, and clearer vocals than the normal TV speakers. So in addition to the new TV you get speakers with great sound without having to spend the extra money.

The HDTV featuring the wedge design, Bravia W850B, will be available this winter while Sony’s first 4k wedge TV, the XBR X900B, will be available in the spring in 55-, 65-, and 79-inch models. Sony’s wedge TV will also host a smart TV including built in Wi-Fi and a camera for video chatting on the couch. The idea is basically to have bigger speakers and lower center of gravity allowing for smaller less bulky pedestals.

Sony calls the models of previous TVs “innovative structural design with a new, iconic Wedge form factor.” And these new models are designed to complement Sony’s high-end 4K Ultra HD TV models, “to give consumers choices in viewing options.”

Sony is planning to partner with Netflix, ESPN, YouTube, and 500px. But nothing is permanent as it waits for the companies to agree to the partnership. Although the Netflix contract is supposed to arrive sometime in this half of the year, ESPN is working with Sony to provide 4K content being unsure about what form it will take. YouTube and 500px is in the same spot. But it is coming.
