I’m far less a bookworm as a book snob. I’m hard to impress and harder to stun. The newest installment in Michael Scott’s did both. Scott successfully slides in new characters, locales, and stunning plot twists no one could have expected.
If you haven’t been following the series, The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel, now would be a good time to start, with The Enchantress, the final book in the series, coming out May 22, 2011.
For those who haven’t been reading the series, it is essentially the story of two teens thrust into a world that only myths can explain. Helped out by the legendary alchemist Nicholas Flamel and his wife, Perenelle, the teens learn that they alone can stop the Elders (the mythological gods) from taking back an earth they once ruled.
Scott’s series blends myth, fantasy, and such historical dignitaries like Niccolo Machiavelli, Billy the Kid, Black Hawk, and John Dee.
Scott has masterfully woven a plot that captures the imagination of a younger crowd while having the suspense to hold an older, more mature audience. I know that I for one can not wait for what will surely be one of the best finale’s to a book series ever.
