County Government Day

On Monday, March 30, twenty Alliance High juniors and approximately twenty Hemingford juniors had the opportunity to see what County Government is all about. During this six-hour tour, the students had the chance to understand the workings of our local government. They visited the County Board of Commissioners, the County Assessor, the Probation Office, the County Jail, the County Clerk, and had the chance to learn all about the University of Nebraska Box Butte County Extension Office. The day ended with a simulated funeral and tour at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.

This was impeccable timing for the students to get a view into the County Board of Commissioners as they were in the process of choosing a new County Attorney, a position that has been vacant since January 7, 2015.

The trip offered the opportunity for students to understand the ins and outs of their elected government and also to have the chance to see if governmental work is something that they would like to pursue.
