On the evening of January 12, the Oregon Ducks squared up against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the inaugural College Football Playoff Final. The Buckeyes were victorious over the Ducks in large fashion with a 42-20 win. The top passer in the game was Oregon’s Heisman recipient Marcus Mariota with a 333-yard performance. Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliot led all rushers with a 246- yard game which included four touchdowns. This is the third National Championship for Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer, his first with the Buckeyes.

This year was an unprecedented year for college football as a sport. This marked the first ever playoff. In recent years, the teams competing in the title game had been decided by the BCS, a completely numbers based algorithm. Ohio State defeated Alabama last weekend in their opening round game. Oregon defeated the defending national champion Florida State Seminoles.
